“Death of a salesman”- Arthur Miller

My evening started as I went to pick up a friend and we headed to the Seymour Centre to watch Death of a salesman. It was a cold night and I was excited to see this play. We waited in the foyer until the staff let us in and we took our seats and watched the play. The play was fantastic, the set was good and the actors/actresses were brilliant. This was my first time that I had actually seen a play and it was a good play to watch as my first. I had read the play before we watched it and I thought that everything just flowed. The characters were really good too, I thought they all did an extremely good job. (well they are professionals). The highlight was when Norman Coburn (Mr. Fisher on home and away) came out and played the part of uncle Ben. I thought that this play really touched on the ideas about poverty and how tough it was for some people to cope with living expenses when they were hardly getting any work. It was a tragic play and I have to admit I had a tear in my eye when it ended and when Willy died. Overall I thought it was great and would recommend it to anyone. When the play ended all I could think about was wanting to jump onto the set and sleep in the beds because I was quite tired but I went back out into the cold and took myself home.

Now all i have to look forward to is the exam, which i can't exactly say i am excited about. Goodluck to all.

What is drama?

We have just started our drama unit in class this week. I find drama fascinating to watch but I don’t really like acting myself. its sad to admit I have stage fright but I like to watch other people perform.

Drama is much more interesting than watching a film or reading a book because the characters are right there in front of you and you are able to interpret their actions on totally different levels than if you were to watch a film or read a book. A play comes fully to life only on the stage.

I found both plays we did in class to be quite different. The play we did in the tutorial, the comedy, was funny and it was good to see how my fellow classmates acted it out to the best of their ability. I also found it interesting to read the play in the tutorial as their was a lot of confusion as to whether the play was a tragedy or a comedy. I personally thought it was a tragedy and even though other people disagreed and thought it wasn’t a tragedy I still think it was.

I am excited to go next week and see a real play “Death of a salesman” it should be good and I can’t wait.

Mischievous Girls

Laughter erupts from the room upstairs.
little girls,
big conversations.
In sudden disbelief,
there is
silence.
Confused i wait.
Slowly they come down stairs,
one by one,
they go outside.
i think to myself as
i shake my head.
They're deffinately up to something

No classes today as it is Anzac day.
i thought that this week in my live journal i will write an entry for the book i want to write about my father. Michael has been asking me to write it so i thought this would be my chance.

i haven't started from the beginning and im not too sure how im gonna start it yet but there is a part of it. i have decided to write in my fathers poin of view.

here goes...

It was winter time and the snow had just began to fall. The small villages and piazzas around my house were beginning to be covered in snow. It was the time of the year that the farmers would be collecting the chestnuts from the fields with their trucks. My sisters and I had the job of collecting the left over chestnuts that the trucks left behind and take them down to the factory in exchange for a few cents.

The journey down to the fields was a long one. On this particular day, my older sister and I would be making the journey to the fields together. We dressed warm as it was freezing outside and started walking. It took us about half an hour to get to the fields. When we got there, there were many other children who were also collecting the chestnuts from the ground. The ground was covered in snow and my fingers were starting to freeze as we were picking up the nuts in the snow. I remember my sister telling me to put my hands between my legs as that was the warmest part of my body at the time.

Once we had finished collecting the chestnuts, we would go down to the factory which wasn’t too far but was still quite a walk and we would exchange the chestnuts that we had collected for a few cents. With the money I collected I would then go down to the local village and buy some lollies with it. It would be my special treat as I didn’t get many sweets at home.

i have to still elaborate on it and its quite short but its only a start. tell me what you think.

i remember doing poetry in year 12 at school. we studied Bruce Dawe and i have to say i really enjoyed his poetry. my favourite was Pleasant Sunday Afternoon. Such irony used in this poem as it was anything but a pleasant sunday afternoon. i think that if your really interested in poetry you should consider reading some of Bruce Dawe's poetry. i think that you would really like it as he write about fact and has very strong views on society. i really enjoy him and i think you would too.

in saying this by writing poem i am discovering new things. my poems dont really have any sort of form i just write what comes to my head. they may not make sence but what poem does make sense.

"Poetry is the music of the soul, and, above all, of great and feeling souls"

we have just started poetry in class and i must say i really enjoy poetry.
im not that good of a poetry writter but i will try and attempt a few in my live journal.
here goes

A beautiful Day

The sound of rain wakes me.
The wind is uncontrollable,
like a raging fight.
I feel cold so i pull the dooner higher
over me.
Light is creeping through my blinds,
i open them,
the sun blinds me.
Its a beautiful day.

hey just wanna wish everyone a HAPPY EASTER. Hope you and your family have a great day and enjoy eating lots and lots of chocolate. i know i will.

Funny Bunny

Little Easter, the comedienne bunny,
Tried too hard at being funny.
She juggled and she dropped the eggs
They fell and smashed between her legs.

Poor Easter left the stage in shame
And thought that she might change her name.
But then that bunny read this ad,
"This Sunday we need help real bad."

So Easter Bunny kept her name
And through the years has gained much fame,
When Easter's Sunday comes each year.
She delivers eggs and we all cheer.

I have totally forgot to post my entries. I had written them up and my internet wasn’t working so I said to myself that I would post it later and totally fogot. But I guess its always like that you try to make yourself remember to do things but you always end up forgetting about it and when you do remember its too late, well hopefully not in this case.

I found the online week quite good as not going to lectures made me feel like I had an extra long weekend but it didn’t stop me from doing my work.

The beats generation was very interesting to learn about. The Beat Generation is a term used to describe both a group of American

I think the beats had real courage to write about topics that were not considered mainstream of their time. They wrote about the future rather than the present but were conscious about the meaning of their writing and what people thought about them.

writers who came to prominence in the late 1950s and early 1960s, and the cultural phenomena that they wrote about and inspired. I have never heard of them before but learning about their styles and the way they wrote was fascinating. When reading about the beats I noticed that they don’t use full stops at all only commas and dashes in the sentences which I believe is used to show the flowing rhythm in the way they write. Kerouac, Ginsberg, Orlovsky (back row), Corso and Orlovsky's brother Lafcadio (front row) while traveling in Mexico

LITERATURE LECTURE ENTRY THREE [Mar. 10th, 2008|02:04 pm]

This week in our lecture we did our essay. I thought it would have been different but it was ok. The movie we had to watch by Henry Lawson, was a real touching story. I felt sympathy for the man who came back to his country town out that non of his old friends were there, as they were either deceased or had left the town. It was sad. :(

“The Waltz” was a story in which I really liked this week. I thought it was funny how it was written. What she says and what she actually wants to say. A funny part of the short story that I liked was when the man she is dancing with kicks her in the shin and in her head she is thinking “For god sakes, don’t kick you idiot….Oh, my shin. My poor, poor shin..” but out loud she says to the man “Oh, no, no, no. Goodness no. it didn’t hurt the least little bit..” I find that quite amusing. I liked reading the waltz because it reminded me of when I did dancing when I was younger, although I didn’t have to dance with a partner and I have to say I enjoyed it more. :P

I also believe from reading this story that society inflicts how she has to act. She has to be nice even though she doesn’t actually want to be. I also believe that she is some what ungrateful because I believe that they only reason she is thinking so rudely is because she doesn’t want to dance with that man but I believe it was someone else who had asked her to dance she would be thinking differently.

The other story we read, “Selections from My cousin, My Gastroenterologist” was the most confusing, unusual story I think I have ever read. To me the story didn’t make much sense and I actually don’t think it was supposed to. I found it quite hard to think of what to write about that would make my story sound similar to Mark Leyner’s style. It was a real challenge, you would think it would be easy to just write down a whole bunch of things that in some way don’t make sense but its not that easy. The way Leyner writes shows us his views on society. Leyner doesn't so much tell us stories (although, he does in a way) but he string together bits of observations, pop-culture references, commentary and completely random bits of actual fiction.

i found this little amination thing and i thought it was cute so i thought i would add it in at the bottom here
