This week in our lecture we did our essay. I thought it would have been different but it was ok. The movie we had to watch by Henry Lawson, was a real touching story. I felt sympathy for the man who came back to his country town out that non of his old friends were there, as they were either deceased or had left the town. It was sad. :(
“The Waltz” was a story in which I really liked this week. I thought it was funny how it was written. What she says and what she actually wants to say. A funny part of the short story that I liked was when the man she is dancing with kicks her in the shin and in her head she is thinking “For god sakes, don’t kick you idiot….Oh, my shin. My poor, poor shin..” but out loud she says to the man “Oh, no, no, no. Goodness no. it didn’t hurt the least little bit..” I find that quite amusing. I liked reading the waltz because it reminded me of when I did dancing when I was younger, although I didn’t have to dance with a partner and I have to say I enjoyed it more. :P
I also believe from reading this story that society inflicts how she has to act. She has to be nice even though she doesn’t actually want to be. I also believe that she is some what ungrateful because I believe that they only reason she is thinking so rudely is because she doesn’t want to dance with that man but I believe it was someone else who had asked her to dance she would be thinking differently. The other story we read, “Selections from My cousin, My Gastroenterologist” was the most confusing, unusual story I think I have ever read. To me the story didn’t make much sense and I actually don’t think it was supposed to. I found it quite hard to think of what to write about that would make my story sound similar to Mark Leyner’s style. It was a real challenge, you would think it would be easy to just write down a whole bunch of things that in some way don’t make sense but its not that easy. The way Leyner writes shows us his views on society. Leyner doesn't so much tell us stories (although, he does in a way) but he string together bits of observations, pop-culture references, commentary and completely random bits of actual fiction.
i found this little amination thing and i thought it was cute so i thought i would add it in at the bottom here
